Nowadays, the Internet browses us as much as we browse it. Every message we send to someone over the Internet may be read by third parties, with or without legal grounds. If you want some peace of mind when you chat with your friends, then Bit Chat is something you should try. This simple and lightweight application provides a peer-to-peer chat functionality, end-to-end encryption and other privacy protection features.

The application is free and it can be used on all popular Windows platforms. It comes in a small package and it can be installed quickly. Also the hardware requirements are modest and there is no need to install any prerequisite tools. However, you will have to wait for a confirmation email, when creating a new account, which may take some time.

Once your Bit Chat account is set up properly, you will be able to log into the desktop application and chat with your friends. You can add them to a contacts list, just by typing their email addresses, one by one, on a small window, but you will have to wait for your contact to do the same. Additionally, you can set up a master password, which will be used on both ends, to increase your security.

Contacts are listed on the left side of the user interface and you can chat with selected ones in the central region. Additionally, you can share files, through a standard browsing option. Shared files are listed in the lower right area of the main window, where anybody in a group can access them.

Bit Chat doesn't look like much on the surface, especially when you look at the clean and simple interface, but there is much to be said about how it works and how it protects your privacy. The most important aspect is the fact that Bit Chat supports peer-to-peer communication. This means that your message will go directly to its recipient, without passing through any server, where it can be intercepted.

Bit Chat gives you the possibility of communicating with your friends without having to worry that someone else may read your messages.

Pros

The application has a clean and simple design. It supports peer-to-peer communication and end-to-end encryption.

Creating and verifying an account can take some time.
